Hack your Brain to a Better Life

Techniques to Learn Better

Use Psychology trick your brain to learn better, faster and improve retention. Using these 5 different methods, you can improve your productivity and consistently work towards your goals.

1. Pomodoro Method

Do 25 minutes of work.

Take 5 minute break.

Repeat until task is done.

This pushes us to learn in two ways. 1. It creates a sense of urgency. Similarly to finishing a project within a night. We tend to finish a task in the time allotted. Setting a tight deadline will cause you to focus more and work faster. 2. It will prevent burnout and give your brain time to actually absorb the information and when you return to working or studying you are refreshed. In addition taking breaks has been proven to help you learn better and increase your retention.

2. FlowTime

Pick one Task

Record the start time

Work until you need a break. Record End time.

Take break until you feel refreshed.

3. Break Down (Projects)

1.Pick an end date for your specific goal.

2. Find the halfway date and set where you want to be at that time

3. Repeat until you reach today and figure out what you need to do today.

This one is mainly for projects or longer term goals. You start with an end product or goal to achieve. Along with a set deadline to reach that goal or make that product. After setting your deadline, you must find the halfway point in the timeline and set a midpoint goal. Then you set a halfway goal, and repeat this process of continuously halving the time and setting goals for these intervals until you reach tomorrow. Make sure to keep your goals are attainable within the interval of you set.

Here’s a guide to set better Goals.

4. Write a Stop doing list

  1. Instead of writing a to do list write a list of things that you’re doing right now that don’t:
    1. Bring you closer to your goals
    2. Bring you joy

This primarily focuses on removing habits in your life that prevent or distract you from reaching your ideal life. Whether this be staring at your phone for hours of the day or overeating. By acknowledging and addressing bad habits in your life that prevent or distract you from attaining your goals. You can take steps to actively improve the habits that make up your day

5. Start with the most rewarding task

This methodology focuses on momentum as once you’ve started a task or a series of tasks you’re more likely to continue the task to completion. Similar to the thought process of “Don’t think of writing a ten page essay, Think of writing one sentence”. Starting with the most rewarding task will give you momentum to complete the rest of the tasks you have for the day.
